I am finding it is hard to get and shoot every single week! Especially when it’s not a jobs that i’m meeting a client for! But it is already pushing me to think outside the box. When I first took these pictures, I had no intent on using them for the weekly project. But as I got thinking more about them, I realized they fit in perfect.
Horses communicate so much with their ears. As an equine photographer, I’m always looking for ears forward. But when I took these, not once did those mama ears come forward to focus on me or anything else going on. Her ears stayed like this, relaxed and focused 100% on her foal. This was about half an hour after baby was born, and I was able to capture his first steps! It was so special to see their first moments together. Foaling season is in full swing and I couldn’t be happier!
This foal was born at Utah State University as part of their breeding program.
“The USU Equine Breeding Program is dedicated to producing top-notch equine prospects while cultivating an educational experience for upcoming equine professionals. Our students learn the importance of cutting edge equine breeding practices including artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and live cover. Students have the opportunity to practice broodmare/stallion management, and are actively involved in the foaling process. The USU Equine Breeding Program strives to select conformationally correct broodmares and stallions with outstanding performance records. We are proud to offer yearlings and started two-year old prospects with proven genetic talent. All of the proceeds generated from the annual USU Equine Program Sale directly benefit the future USU Equine Breeding Program. “
This foal is out of USU’s mare Laredo Dry Sis and by the stallion Hashtags.
