One of my most frequently asked questions is: When is the best time for pictures with flowers or blossoms? Its a great question – most locations you have to time just right! Because of this I’ve started a Utah flower location guide. I’ve compiled a few of my favorite locations and the time of year when the blossoms or flowers are typically best. It varies slightly from year to year, but this will give you a general time of when to plan your photo session! All of these locations are in northern Utah between Cache Valley and Salt Lake City. Most of these locations are horse friendly as well! The great thing about Utah is once things start blooming there is almost always an option for some sort of flowers! As I find new spots I will continue to add to this blog!
Cherry Blossoms – Beginning of April
Yellow Wild Flowers – End of April
Apple Orchards – Beginning of May
Poppies – Beginning of June
The poppies are gorgeous, and only last a few weeks. This spot gets very popular once they start to bloom so I typically only take a few sessions here. This is not somewhere I take horses to, as the poppies are easily broken down and I would hate to have them trampled and ruined. There are spots around the main poppy field that are great for horses that we can use in addition to the poppies!
Tony’s Grove Wild Flowers – Beginning of July
Purple Flowers – Beginning of August
If I had to pick one favorite – this would be it! This little spot of flowers (I think they’re actually weeds……but they’re still pretty!!) is such a fun spot to go to. My husband found it by chance one year and we have been back every year since! It’s easy to get horses to, and has lots of room to move around as needed! It also has a little fire pit right next to it for some hotdogs and s’mores after your shoot! This spot is always really quiet. I’ve only ran into another photographer there once!
Do you have a favorite flower spot that isn’t on my list? No worries! I am always happy to try new locations, especially if they are special to you!
